Harrison W.L. Dean is a third-year medical student undergoing a research year as an Academic Scholar with a concentration in Anatomy at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University. He has led cadaveric dissections and teaching components of the gross anatomy laboratory for first-year medical students. Additionally, he has served as a mentor through various tutoring and leadership positions and ambassadorships for those interested in pursuing medicine. Harrison has participated in diverse research areas, including cell and tissue culture, programming and modeling, and systematic review work. He is passionate about cardiovascular science and medicine and has utilized his background in biomedical engineering to develop a program for the early detection of congenital heart disease in pediatric patients. He has since expanded his research to include electrophysiology and machine learning, focusing on cardiovascular medical education with Dr. Todd Cohen.
Harrison plans to further engage with the surgical community through research and activities related to burnout and wellness within surgical subspecialties, as well as work in cardiothoracic surgery. He is excited to present his current work at the 2024 American College of Osteopathic Surgeons Annual Clinical Assembly.
Originally from Northwest Arkansas, Harrison enjoys the local coffee roasters and the beautiful scenery of his home state. In his free time, he plays pickleball, ping pong, and golf.
