Daniel J. Waters, DO, MA, FACOS-D ACOS CTV Discipline
Daniel James Waters, D.O. graduated from UMD-New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine (NJSOM – now the Rowan Virtua SOM) in 1982. He interned at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Stratford, NJ, completed a General Surgery Residency at Des Moines General Hospital in Iowa, which was followed by a Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, OH. He practiced Cardiothoracic Surgery in Iowa for thirty years, retiring in 2019. He was a hospital Director of Medical Education for twenty years. In 2019, Dr. Waters received the ACOS Charles L. Ballinger Distinguished Osteopathic Surgeon Award for career achievement. He holds a Graduate Certificate in Narrative Healthcare as well as a Master of Arts degree in Writing from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Asheville, NC. His writing and publishing career spans over forty years and multiple genres and publications, including two popular and oft-quoted books of surgical advice. He is the author of seven novels, has been a Doximity.com Writing Fellow and his profiles and columns on retirement and other subjects appear regularly in The DO Magazine
