Dr. Rick Miller has been a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon for over 30 years and is currently working with the Methodist Hospital System to build a Trauma Center in Mansfield, Texas. He was the first trauma and surgical critical care fellow at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from 1990-1992. He then ran a Level 1 Trauma Center in Greenville, SC for 10 years before he was recruited back to Vanderbilt to become the Trauma Medical Director in 2002. Dr. Miller spent the next 18 years at Vanderbilt and rose to full Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Emergency General Surgery. In 2020 he was recruited to the JPS Health System in Fort Worth, Texas to serve as the Chair of the Department of Surgery and Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Miller is currently the President of the Western Trauma Association and balances his time between patient care, well-being and teaching clinicians the art of human connection. Dr. Miller is a certified clinician coach and along with his colleagues JR. Labbe and Lara Burnside of CSE Leadership, support healthcare professionals in creating a culture of caring, engagement and essentials skills in the patient experience.
