A retired Navy Captain with 20 years service as a general surgeon, Zachary Brown, DO, FACOS, FACS is a burn surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
Dr. Brown completed medical school at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (2003); general surgery residency at Memorial Hospital in York, PA (2012); and fellowships in surgical critical care, trauma surgery, and burn surgery at UT Southwestern and Parkland hospitals in Dallas, TX (2016). While on active duty he deployed six times, including four operational tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. His personal awards included the Bronze Star medal, Meritorious Service medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal with one gold star, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal.
Dr. Brown is the Chair of the Military Burn Research Program. He serves on the Military Committee of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Government Affairs Committee of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.
