To propose the adoption of specific parameters which reliably predict futile resuscitation (FR) for severely bleeding trauma patients with and without traumatic brain injury (TBI) who will certainly not survive.
To describe the unintended consequences of the recent widespread adoption of whole blood and 1/1/1 red cell, plasma and platelet resuscitation for severely bleeding trauma patients with and without (TBI) on the nation's blood supply.
To provide examples of trauma patients for application of proposed specific parameters to define FR for severely bleeding trauma patients with and without TBI.
To explore the adoption of Futility Time Outs (FTOs) and Transfusion Time Outs (TTOs) for those patients receiving FR and likely not to survive.
